Last year William Basinski unveiled his new creative partnership with producer Preston Wendel (aka Shania Taint), the profoundly playful SPARKLE DIVISION. The duo’s debut album, To Feel Embraced, strived to celebrate the gift of life in the midst of a year filled with so much loss – including that of To Feel Embraced contributor and indelible jazz icon, Henry Grimes. Merging their loves of lounge, jazz, disco, and experimental electronic composition into something unique and exquisite, SPARKLE DIVISION delivers a rare kind of euphoric meditation. Their new single, CLASSIFIED, acts as bookends of their career to date. “Beehive Switchblade” – recorded after the release of last year’s To Feel Embraced – is a lounge-house banger that highlights Basinski’s free-flowing sax performance. Meanwhile, “Booty Buster” and “Studio 54” – the first two tracks ever made by SPARKLE DIVISION – are a pair of blown-out lost disco classics that recall the distant days of hot summer nights in late 1970s Times Square.
